Since St. Valentine is known as the patron saint of love, epileptics and beekeepers, we thought we’d touch on some interesting facts related to all three!
When we think of love, of course our first thought is about our hearts. It also turns out February is heart health month and that makes it a perfect time to think about the old ticker a little more. By reducing your exposure to smoke or secondhand smoke you can dramatically improve your hearts health.
Epilepsy on the other hand is not something that we often think of when we think of Valentine’s Day or the saint himself but, St. Valentine was actually a physician himself. Epilepsy is a type of neurological disorder that is characterized by sudden, recurrent seizures. Most epileptic seizures last from 1 to 2 minutes but some are known to last longer. It currently impacts 40 to 50 MILLION people worldwide.
As for beekeepers, Hendrick’s County has its very own beekeeper’s club! They even host informational events about bees and how to attract them. So, if bees are your thing (or even if they aren’t) it seems like Hendricks County has some sweet ways to learn about the honey and hives around the community.
We HOPE you have a seriously awesome Valentine’s Day.
Roses are Red, Violets are blue, We need our vitamins and so do you! With Valentine’s day right around the corner, it is the perfect time to discuss all things red. Well, more like all foods red.
For example, red peppers, radishes, cherries, strawberries, red beans, red onions and tomatoes are all packed full of vitamins! These festive foods are also home to some seriously strong antioxidants which have been linked to decreased rates of cancer.
Plus, while we’re on the topic of red foods, red wine is also believed to have some health benefits like reduced risk of blood clots- when used responsibility and in moderation. Of course, wine won't be giving you the cholesterol kicking fiber or protein that our other favorite red foods can.
Maybe we will stick to giving out strawberries instead of candies this year for our valentine.
